Pronouns, Pride, & Power: Living Beyond the Binary with Schereeya
[Data Yap, Season 2, Episode 4]
Happy Pride & Happy Juneteenth!
Are you too ethereal for this planet?
This week, meet Black trans masc, nonbinary, fae poet & techie,
(he/fae/they). Growing up in a spiritually and intellectually rich environment in the rural South, Schereeya has navigated complex identities—Black, queer, trans, neurodivergent—through curiosity, creativity, and resilience. He also runs the Substack page, Schereeya’s Solar Dome:
Fae identifies as both an artist and a scientist, using the scientific method as a framework for understanding the world and creativity as a means of expression and exploration. Schereeya’s neurodivergent mind organizes and processes the world through deep observation, categorization, and interconnectedness, which fuels his poetry, storytelling, and emotional expression.
Schereeya also draws the parallel between changeling folklore and the lived experience of being autistic and gender-expansive. He emphasizes how neurodivergence informs faer worldview, allowing him to deeply connect concepts and emotions.
🌟 Episode Highlights:
1. Fairy Lore Meets Neurodivergence & Gender: Schereeya connects deeply with changeling myths, finding a metaphor for autism and gender fluidity in folklore—describing faer identity as “too ethereal for this planet and probably too hot for it too.”
2. Transition Reflections Fueled by Righteous Anger & Awe: A spontaneous, heartfelt Substack post—sparked by grief over a transmasc’s death—becomes a viral testament to trans joy, growth, and the power of reflection: looking back and seeing how far you've come.
3. Thriving in Tech as a Trans Masc Autistic Professional: Schereeya candidly discusses working in tech sales, where fae found an affirming workplace, data-driven creativity, and unexpected joy in using analytics to build strategy and confidence.
This episode is all about transformation, belonging, and the radical potential of knowing—and loving—yourself fully. Whether you’re curious about celebrating Black trans joy, embracing neurodiversity, cultivating a creative practice, or navigating tech, this talk offers uplifting perspectives and honest reflections you won’t want to miss.
